GURRIDI

TRADITIONAL LAND TRUST

A historically Important outstation led by Traditional Owners, restoring connection to Country, creating meaningful pathways for work and learning, and building long-term cultural and economic strength for our families and community.

GURRIDI TRADITIONAL LAND TRUST

Our vision is to restore Gurridi as a safe and sustainable base where people can live, learn, work and reconnect with Culture. Returning the outstation to use will allow us to support wellbeing, offer practical training and create steady pathways for community leadership. It will also lay the groundwork for future economic activity that is guided by our values and responsibilities as Traditional Owners.

We see Gurridi becoming a central place for long term cultural, social and economic strength for the families connected to this land, and we are committed to leading this work in a way that reflects our history and our aspirations for the future.

Gurridi is an Indigenous freehold outstation on the Coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria Queensland, held and governed by our Trust. Our families have cared for this land over generations and remain deeply connected to it. We are now taking deliberate steps to bring Gurridi back into regular use so it can again support cultural practice, strengthen family ties and provide meaningful activity on Country.

"The big picture dream is to have everyone all along the coastline have their homelands back; creating their futures through economic development.  We are all excited and looking forward to this big journey ahead reactivating our lands, following the dreams of our parents and grandparents and teaching the young ones and giving them the best of both worlds".
